My Spouse
I met my wife, Susan, in classes at NYU.
My Pets
Chow Chows are very independent dogs.
I recall that the psychologist Konrad Lorenz wrote that Chows look upon their owners as pack leaders, so the word "obey" doesn't necessarily apply!
College
Right out of Fort Lee High School I went to Baruch College at City University of New York. Living in my father's apartment at 39th St & Park Ave I was able to go to school full time. But in a few years I transferred to NYU and took night classes as I was working full time to be able to pay the rent on an apartment of my own. Here I was with an apartment on 96th St & Lexington Ave, riding my bicycle (in a suit!) downtown to work at 52nd St & Sixth Ave, putting in a full day and t...Expand for more
hen bicycling down to NYU at West 4th St & Fifth Ave (Washington Square Park). After classes were over for the night I would ride the bike all the way uptown back to 96th St!
At the age of 7 I took my brother's 15 speed bike for a ride and wound up breaking my collar bone. After my first year of college in NY, and during a summer job while living back in Fort Lee, a car hit me while I was riding a 10 speed bike and shattered my left leg (compound fracture of the left tibia and fibula). That took 15 months, 2 operations, 3 pins, 1 bolt and a bone graft from my right hip (illiac crest) when my body decided to make it easier for the broken pieces of bone to move by forming cartelage (pseudo arthrosis) instead of calcifying into bone. I was faster on 4 legs (crutches) than I ever was on 2!
BUT I NEVER GOT SO MUCH AS A SCRATCH WEAVING IN AND OUT OF TRAFFIC ON THE STREETS OF NEW YORK!
Go figure...
